The PSLE English examination tests a wide range of language skills. Here are targeted strategies for each component.
Paper 1 — Situational Writing: Always identify the purpose, audience, and context. Use the correct format and tone. Include all content points from the question.
Paper 1 — Continuous Writing: Choose the topic you're most comfortable with. Spend 5 minutes planning your plot with a clear conflict and resolution.
Paper 2 — Comprehension: Read the passage twice. For inference questions, look for clues in the text and use your own words to explain.
Paper 2 — Grammar Cloze: Read the entire passage first to understand context before filling in blanks. Pay attention to tenses and subject-verb agreement.
Time Management: Allocate your time wisely — don't spend too long on any single question. Move on and return to difficult questions later.
